How the score works

Parses like an ATS

Reads your PDF or DOCX the way tracking systems do and flags columns, tables, header-only contact details and image-only files.

Weighs what matters

Required skills count more than nice-to-haves, and skills proven in your experience count more than a list.

Understands synonyms

Knows JS is JavaScript, K8s is Kubernetes and Postgres is PostgreSQL, so you aren't penalised for spelling.

Checks knockouts

Compares years of experience (with overlapping jobs merged) and degree level against the job ad.

No checker can reproduce every employer's ATS settings. Treat the score as a guide, and only add skills you really have.

FAQ

ATS checker questions.

What is an ATS?

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software employers use to collect, parse and rank CVs. It reads your CV as plain text, files it into fields like experience and skills, and lets recruiters search and filter by keywords and requirements before a person reads it.

How does the ATS checker score my CV?

It reads your CV the way an ATS does, then scores parseability, required and preferred skills (counting synonyms like JS for JavaScript), knockout criteria such as years of experience and degree, seniority fit, how well the CV is tailored to the job, title alignment and writing quality. Every point comes with the reason behind it.

Why is my score low?

The biggest factors are missing must-have skills, a CV aimed at a different level or field, and an untailored CV: no job title in your headline, a summary that doesn't mention the role's key skills, or skills listed without being shown in your experience. The checks list exactly what to fix.

Is my CV uploaded or stored?

Your file is read in your browser and is not uploaded. If you turn on the optional advanced analysis, the text of your CV (without your contact details) and the job description are sent to our AI service, used only to generate those suggestions.

Will the checker tell me if I'm overqualified?

Yes. It compares the role's level (for example intern, junior, senior or director) with the level your CV shows and flags both overqualified and underqualified applications, because recruiters screen on level as well as skills.

How do I improve my ATS score?

Open your CV in the free CV builder from your results. Its Score tab shows your live job-match score and one-tap fixes, such as adding a skill you really have or using the job title in your headline, and the score updates as you edit.

Is the ATS checker free?

Yes. The ATS checker, the CV builder and all CV templates are free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark.
